Chocolate Orange Scones Recipe
This is such an easy recipe to make and so very different from my usual scone recipe. It’s very soft and crumbly and doesn’t really need butter of cream on it . With that said you could if you wanted to . They are better just slightly warm from the oven although they do keep for up to 2 days in an airtight container. You can just heat them up again in the oven when you’re ready to eat them.
You will need
A large bowl
Baking sheets x 2
I always use my food processor to blend my butter into the flour but you can do it by hand if you prefer.
This makes 12 scones

INGREDIENTS
4 cups plain flour
4 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
½ cup castor sugar
½ cup of butter cold and chopped into small pieces
Zest of one large orange
1 cup of semi sweet chocolate cut into small chunks
600 ml double cream
FOR THE ICING
½ cup of icing powder
Zest and juice or one orange
Set the oven at 210 C
TO MAKE
Add all the dry ingredients except the chocolate to the bowl of your food processor and blend until mixed through
Add the butter and mix until all the the butter has been mixed with the dry ingredients
Add the orange zest and the chocolate and blend through until mixed
Empty into a large mixing bowl and make a well in the centre and pour in the cream
Now mix through well. Make into two separate balls as I find this easier to handle
Take each ball and put onto a floured surface
Mould into a flattened ball about 8 inches square and 2 inches deep
Cut this into 6 triangles or triangle shapes. You don’t have to do this perfectly – or use a cutter. I prefer to keep it rustic looking.
Place on baking trays apart to allow the scone to spread whilst cooking.
Place in oven and allow to bake for around 20 mins. They need to be well coloured and cooked through
Place on cooling rack and allow to cool slightly.
This is a good time to mix the icing
Place icing powder, orange zest and juice in bowl and mix through
You may not need all of the orange juice so I suggest a teaspoon at a time until it’s the right consistency. It needs to be able to pour and sit on the scone
When they have cooled enough to touch simply pour a spoonful of icing on each one and eat!
Serve with jam and cream if you wish or simply just pick one up and stuff your face with it whilst cleaning up ! I may or may not have done that~ and you may or may not also do that ! Let’s not tell anyone ! It can be our secret!
Lots of Love,
