LEARN HOW TO WORK WITH YOURS
There are seven chakras in our bodies in which energy flows through that we concentrate on.
Blocked energy in our chakras can often lead to illness, so it’s important to understand what each chakra represents and what we can do to keep this energy flowing freely. I like to imagine it as a dam, a river flowing happily through the core of our body if you like, each chakra represents a dam that the water flows through.
Imagine in this river if a tree fell over and then the water before it could not get through, it would stagnate and become a breeding ground of illness and negative.
Many of us are blissfully unaware of the importance of having these energy centres running smoothly and efficiently. If the spark plugs on your car were missing, your car would not start! Yet, we would hurry to the garage and get it fixed. Heaven help us if the remote for our TV stopped working, we would change the batteries in a heartbeat, often in our house this results in a frenzied search through the drawers for new ones!
However, when it comes to the energy of our self we often just put ourselves last on the list of things to do eventually. Perhaps this could be causing you major issues that you NEVER even knew existed.
I have kept this simple for today’s topic and will cover it in greater detail later on in the year.
Root Chakra
Represented by the colour Red.
It is our foundation and offers us a feeling of being grounded.
Location: Base of spine in tailbone area.
Emotional issues: Survival issues such as financial independence, money and food.
How to energize your Root Chakra:
If you find yourself disconnected from material existence, your root chakra may need to be rebooted. You can do this with reconnecting to the earth by being out in nature.
Gardening, swimming or even playing in the leaves can energize your root chakra. Walk barefoot on earth, soil or even the beach to do this.
Sacral Chakra
Represented by the colour Orange.
Our connection and ability to accept others and new experiences.
Location: Lower abdomen, about two inches below the navel and two inches in.
Emotional issues: Sense of abundance, well-being, pleasure and sexuality.
Your sacral chakra is the home of the creative life force energy that helps you enjoy your life here on Earth.
It’s the energy that motivates you to enjoy the fruits of your labor including indulging in pleasurable activities like sex.
How to energize your Sacral chakra:
Energizing your Sacral chakra is fun. In simple terms – enjoy life! Create a piece of art. Eat a healthy and enjoyable snack.
Take time for yourself and enjoy the incredible gifts the Earth has to offer you.
Solar Plexus Chakra
Represented by the colour Yellow.
Our ability to be confident and in control of our lives.
Location: Upper abdomen in the stomach area. Below the breastbone Emotional issues: Self-worth, self-confidence and self-esteem.
How to energize your Solar Plexus Chakra:
To energize your Solar Plexus, think of the things that you know you’re good at. Everyone has talents and abilities, make a list of yours.
Feel how the confidence in those talents makes your stomach tingle and vibrate. Empower that feeling by creating your own personal affirmations.
Heart Chakra — Our ability to love.
Represented by the colour Green.
Location: Center of chest just above the heart.
Emotional issues: Love, joy and inner peace.
How to energize your Heart Chakra:
Energizing your heart chakra may take a lot of work.
Many of us have worked hard to build up our walls and defenses and it isn’t always easy to knock them down. It first begins by loving yourself.
Show appreciation for yourself and give yourself the love that you want others to give to you. Then, spread that compassion to those around you.
Literally feeling the love!
Throat Chakra — Our ability to communicate.
Represented by the colour Blue.
Location: Throat.
Emotional issues: Communication, self-expression of feelings and the truth.
How to energize your Throat Chakra:
Speak your truth!
Even if no one is around to hear you, practice expressing your emotions and truths when you’re alone.
It’s very common to think that we should only speak when someone else is around to hear it, but if you’re trying to energize your Throat Chakra, it doesn’t matter if its received by any other ear than your own.
Third Eye Chakra — Our ability to focus on and see the big picture.
Represented by the colour Indigo.
Location: Forehead between the eyes (also called the Brow Chakra) Emotional issues: Intuition, imagination, wisdom and the ability to think and make decisions.
Energizing your Third Eye will take some practice. You’ll need to devote some time to quiet, solitary meditation. At first, get used to the feeling of focusing on signals outside of your physical body. Listen to your spirit and recognize how that feels.
As you practice this, you’ll find it easier and easier to connect with the energy from your Third Eye.
Crown Chakra
Represented by the colour Violet.
The highest chakra represents our ability to be fully connected spiritually. Location: The very top of the head. Emotional issues: Inner and outer beauty, our connection to spirituality and pure bliss.
How to energize your Crown Chakra:
Instead of attempting to open up and activate your Crown Chakra, focus on balancing the other 6 chakras.
Meditate and connect with spirit and balance those activities with living and enjoying your human experience.
Think of it like trying to win an Olympic gold medal. You don’t just try to win the medal, you train your body and mind first.
The only way to achieve such a huge goal is to focus on small, attainable goals first. The same goes for trying to open your crown chakra. Don’t just attempt it; focus on maintaining and balancing all the other energies in your body.
I find it much easier to open and balance my Chakras with a guided meditation, there are so many out there in the internet world to choose from but I have enclosed a link to my favourite one. You can also buy stones to balance your chakras and often people wear chakra bracelets and Jewellery to help.
Take it easy at first and see how it feels, I actually balance mine every single day if I am working and once or twice a week if I am off. You will learn what feels right and what feels wrong.
